Leading DC concrete producer goes green
“The nation's capital will now have access to green masonry. Ernest Maier solidified their commitment to sustainability today when they announced that they had signed an agreement with CarbonCure Technologies.
"We’re pleased to have Ernest Maier on board,” said Robert Niven, CEO of CarbonCure Technologies. “They’re a great company and we’re eager to collaborate with them as they look to broaden the sustainability aspect of their product line.”
This is timely given the market that Ernest Maier serves. The District was the first city in the nation to require new privately constructed buildings to meet LEED standards with the implementation of the Green Building Act in 2006. According to the District Department of the Environment, DC has more LEED certified and ENERGY STAR certified square footage per capita than any other large city in the United States. In March of 2014, the District announced that they had adopted the 2013 DC Construction Codes, cementing D.C.’s status as a leader on green building and sustainability practices.
With CarbonCure Technologies now incorporated into their manufacturing process, Ernest Maier will be the first masonry producer in the area to issue Environmental Product Declarations and Health Product Declarations. Ernest Maier is already an active member in the local green building community. They sponsor the USGBC chapter for the District of Columbia.
“We’re in a market that has committed to the best green construction standards and we fully support this commitment,” said Brendan Quinn, President of Ernest Maier. “CarbonCure is allowing us to better serve this market and meet the demands of our customers.”
Ernest Maier will be hosting a GreenLearn event this evening to highlight responsible stormwater control and best practices. The event will highlight St John’s College High School and the innovative stormwater management paving system that they recently installed.
